Utilizing Technology with the SEPUP modules
There are many ways to incorporate computer technology into
your module use. The SEPUP website provides:
Student links to
web pages that provide information relevant to a particular module.
Information about issues in the
news related to a particular module.
Teacher links to web
pages that
provide background information relevant to a particular module.
An online forum for
SEPUP teachers where you can browse past discussions and participate in or
initiate new ones.
You may also be interested in using a software program called
See-Saw to assist students with applying evidence and trade-offs
to decision-making.
SEPUP worked with software developer Inquirium to develop a program
that:
-
uses a balance analogy to explore the process of weighing trade-offs
when making a decision.
-
provides a framework for analyzing and comparing the advantages and
disadvantages of multiple solutions before making a decision.
-
can be used with any activity involving evidence and trade-offs.
While using the software, students must:
list the possible solutions to their question.
supply the evidence they have gathered.
assign each piece of evidence a value.
identify whether the evidence supports a particular solution.
See-Saw then takes the information students have provided and
generates a balance. Items students have listed for a solution
appear on one
side of the balance and items they have listed against a solution
appear on
the other side of the balance.
More information on See-Saw is currently available through Inquirium
